To meet its emissions mandate, Massachusetts must transition over 80% of its buildings to efficient electric heat pumps by 2050 and then produce that electricity with renewables. The result will improve air quality and health, and reduce our impact on our children’s climate.

However, it will require a lot of work, including:

• Retrofitting our buildings to be all electric

• Rightsizing our natural gas system

• Upgrading our electric transmission and distribution systems to deliver the increase in electricity

HEETlabs is exploring how to be tactical and efficient in how we upgrade our energy systems. We can then use some of the financial savings to pay for the needed retrofits to our buildings.
